An original poem inspired by the themes of fear, faith, pain, and healing in NF’s music.
I built a mansion in my mind,
Filled every room with things I hide.
I searched for peace in empty halls,
And painted hope upon the walls.
I carried burdens like a crown,
Afraid to let my armor down.
My fear became a second skin,
A war outside, a war within.
I chased a dream through sleepless nights,
Mistook my shadows for the light.
I asked the heavens for a sign,
While losing pieces of my mind.
I gave my trust to broken hands,
Built castles out of sinking sand.
I learned that love could feel like pain,
And sunshine sometimes comes with rain.
I heard the voices, loud and clear,
The ones that fed upon my fear.
They told me I would never change,
That broken hearts must stay that way.
But somewhere underneath the scars,
Beyond the dark, beyond the stars,
A younger version of me cried,
Still waiting to be found inside.
I met my anger face to face,
And found that grief had taken its place.
I looked at all the years I’d lost,
And wondered what survival cost.
I couldn’t change the things I’d seen,
Or resurrect who I had been.
But maybe healing doesn’t mean
Forgetting every painful thing.
Maybe hope is choosing light
When darkness begs you not to fight.
Maybe strength is letting go
Of all the hurt you’ve come to know.
So let the past become a page,
Not every chapter needs a cage.
I’ll take these scars and make them art,
A thousand songs inside one heart.
And when the final curtain falls,
I’ll leave my fears behind these walls.
For every tear I couldn’t cry,
For every dream I let pass by,
I’ll tell the child I used to be,
“You made it through. You’re finally free.”
And if tomorrow brings more rain,
I’ll learn to dance beneath the pain.
Because the truth I’ve come to find
Is I’m more than the wars inside my mind.
I was never just the things I feared.
I was the voice that persevered.
